Timing is Everything

Delaware Route 1 often experiences significant traffic delays, especially as you get closer to the bustling beach towns. Additionally, Route 26 is known to face congestion near Bethany Beach.

Peak Season: Traffic is highest between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Avoid Peak Times: Weekends and holidays (Memorial Day to Labor Day) are the worst; try to avoid Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.

Travel Off-Peak: Leave very early (before 9 AM) or later in the day to miss the bulk of the rush, or take advantage of Friday summer hours to get a head start.

Weekend Gridlock: The most severe congestion occurs on Fridays (early evening) and Saturdays (late morning through afternoon). This is primarily because most vacation rentals in the region operate on a Saturday-to-Saturday schedule, causing hundreds of vehicles to arrive and depart simultaneously.
